A little about me and my writing…

Hello, dear reader!

Thanks for stopping by! Here’s a little bit about me and why I write…

Over the course of 20+ years in academic philosophy, I’ve always kept in mind the words of the American philosopher John Dewey:

“Philosophy recovers itself when it ceases to be a device for dealing with the problems of philosophers and becomes a method, cultivated by philosophers, for dealing with the problems of [humankind].”

So, I decided to join Medium as an experiment in the sort of public philosophy Dewey advocated.

I want to connect people with ideas — big ones, small ones, even those that may be a little off the wall.

Since my training is in the history of philosophy and comparative thought, I tend to think of philosophy as an ongoing, global conversation about what it means for humans to live their best possible life.

And, while I may draw philosophical inspiration from all over the planet, that’s the thread that binds my stories together — the human experience.

I hope you find some small insight or inspiration in reading them.

Cheers!
